First regional steps towards WSFTE

In almost one year is going to be hold the World Social Forum of Transformative Economies (WSFTE) that will be in June of 2020 in Barcelona. As a result, the Networks, association or entities have begun to organize for participate in the WFSTE and at the same time the first campaigns and initiatives have appeared.

For example, this Friday Uruguay organizes the First National Forum that will gather a multiplicity of actors around the axis of WSFTE: feminist economies, agroecology, commons and social and solidarity economy. The idea is to generate a dialogue about different questions. In that case, the organizers have invited members from Asociación para los Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres y el Desarrollo (AWID), de la Red de Agroecología de Derechos de la Mujer, Redes Amigos de la Tierra, Coordinadora Nacional de Economía Solidaria, Asociación Nacional de Empresas Recuperadas por sus Trabajadores. As well, there will be members from the academy as Social and Solidarity Network from the Republic University of Uruguay, Cure-Department Territorial, Environment and Passage, International Network of Human Economy and public policies.

The second meeting, which date is yet to determinate, will be focused on movements and paradigms that contribute to imagine that another economy is possible or paradigms about diversity. In this case will participate mutualities and business from circular economy. The main goal of both meetings is to agree a common position that will be presented in WSFTE.

In another part of the planet, France, the University Jean Jaurés from Toulouse will host from 22th of November until 23th the Regional Forum about Social and Solidarity Economies from Occitan. This year edition has the specificity that will be one step towards WSFTE because of its approach to agroecology, feminist economies, commons and social and solidarity economies. In addition, it will focus in public policies, education and investigation that will be articulated to the axis .

On the other hand, the Social Solidarity Mercosur Platform, that comprises 16 Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) and 150 social organizations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, sticks to WSFTE. That’s why they organize a regional forum about the transformative economies of Mercosur from 29th to 30th of November in Rio de Janeiro.

But these regional meetings are not the only steps through the WSFTE. The Red Internacional de Educación y Economia Social y Solidaria, inside Campaña por un Curriculum Global de la Economía Social y Solidaria and WSFTE Coordination Committee member, begins an online survey to educators. That Network ask them about how the social and solidarity economy has to be taught or demand them to share specific education proposals to discuss in WSFTE. People can answer the survey until the end of 2019. The results will be systematized and published in ES (Magazine about Social Economy).

Moreover, some popular initiatives have emerged as the Gijs Spoor and Naimeh Ghabaie that will do a very special travel. Planes emit different polluting gases like CO2. In that context, they decided to come to Barcelona to participate in WSFTE, travelling from Auroville, India, by land through the historical Silk route. The flight from one person from New Dehli to Barcelona emit 1,4 tonnes from CO2. This quantity is the equivalence of the melting of 936 tonnes of glacial ice, travelling three times around the world by train or leaving a low energy bulb on during day and night for a decade. For that reasons, they decided not to be up to the sky for coming to WSFTE and to have a less polluting journey.
